FANTASTIC DAY FOR GOLF COMPETITION FINALS
After months of turbulent weather, semi flooding, gale-force winds, and missing players on holiday everywhere and somewhere around the country, fortune turned our way and allowed the championship finals to go ahead after last week’s debacle because of rain. We congratulate all winners. I missed out on a chance of playing this year because I did a hamstring about six or seven weeks ago, and golf was impossible for me. Not only for me, either. I was in the GP’s waiting room on Thursday morning when who should walk in, accompanied by his wife, but John Pinder. John spotted me and started walking in my direction, and strange to say seemed to be winking at me. I thought to myself “Cut it out, John. I’m not that sort of bloke!” I started looking in other directions, but with him getting closer had no choice other than to say “Good day”. Blow me down! All of a sudden I realised that something was really different about him. His right eye was a hell of a lot different to the last time I saw it. The poor bloke has shingles, and what a rotten place to get it! He says he’s had it for a few weeks, and that’s why he’s not been appearing for play. Good luck, John, and to any others who are going through awkward health problems.
Saturday raffle time saw a Cliffex meat tray won by Andrew Golby. Andy would have preferred a six pack, so if the winner of the Crown Lager (Graeme Lanigan) would care to contact him they could organise a swap. The other meat tray was won by Neil Dennett.
Christmas hamper time is looming, so those promises of suitable donations to help fill them need to be fulfilled. Contact Corinna Cross, preferably in the next two or three days.
