On Friday 20th April Safety Beach Ladies hosted the following clubs who were competing for our Challenge Bowl for 2018: Carrington Park at Eagle Ridge, Cerberus, Devilbend, Morack, Mornington, Mt Martha (2 teams) Portsea, Riversdale, Rosebud CC, Rosebud Park, The Dunes & The National. With 2 teams from Safety Beach this meant a total of 15 teams played in the 4BBB event which started at 8.30am with a shotgun start on a perfect Autumn day. Once the fog finally lifted that is!!
Our 2 teams did the whole club proud by not only winning the Challenge Bowl but also finishing runner up & winning the best pair prize as well! Super effort ladies and against pretty strong competition. Below are the winning team members & other results:
Winners: Denise Law, Lynn Gray, Colleen Warfield & Sue Pratt with 78 points. Runners Up: Barbara Bright, Cathy Roussis, Kim Reynolds & Viv Goodson with 76 points. The best pair score of 41 points was recorded by Denise Law & Lynn Gray who won on count back from Barbara Bright & Cathy Roussis also with 41 points. The ball winners were: Margot Smith & Kris Slocombe (Cerberus) with 39 points, Jenny Low & Thea Kimber (Mornington) with 39 points, Joan Lynch & Ann Dumsa (Mt Martha) with 38 points, Lois Weldon & Wendy McKeown (Rosebud CC) with 38 points, Dani Hart & Tini McKim (Riversdale) with 37 points & Maryke Scott & Anne McCormack (Mt Martha) with 36 points. Congratulations to all these ladies for some great scoring as well.
Without the help of Damon Quigley & his team this day would not be possible, so a big thank you from the ladies for all you did early on Friday morning & every other day to ensure the course is in such great condition despite all the challenges you face. We received nothing but positive feedback about the course from all the players which was great to hear. Thanks also to Neil Fredricson & Shane Johnson who helped the ladies get their carts in a timely manner as well as helping to check that the scorecards were all scanned & checked. There were some interesting cards submitted despite all pairs receiving clear instructions on how to complete them correctly!
Overall the day was a big success for our club mainly due also to the hard work of all members of our Ladies Committee who did a super job while John Sargent & Ian Bond made sure the ladies spent plenty of money at the bar. Thanks to you both. The lunch which our ladies prepared received high praise from all the competitors so well done team. Jenny Dovison, Viv Goodson, Lucy Bond, Barbara Sargent, Milica Cole, Lyn Greer, Joan Spence & Barbara Bright all contributed by making goodies for when the ladies arrived and/or organised the mains & deserts menu! A big thanks to Colleen Warfield who cooked & sliced the chicken rolls as well as to Kim & Gordon Reynolds who provided the free water for the players on the day as well as loo paper for the toilets on the course. Also thanks go to our non-committee helpers on the day, Pam Scholtz, Helen Danson, Ilse Urlus & Judith Whittaker, we really appreciate your help. Hopefully I haven’t missed anyone!
