Raffle & Norm`s Ramblings

FIRST WEEKEND OF SEPTEMBER, AND NO FINALS BEING PLAYED!
Did it really have to come to this? A novel display of old footballers engineering a full-time draw in a “legends” match on the Friday night, and the first Saturday of the most crucial month in AFL football dominated by a ladies’ night match on the Western Oval! Mind you, the girls performed much better than the previous night’s lot, but showed they also had that innate ability to  pass directly to opposition players. Their ability to handle the ball so easily showed that netball and basketball have a grounding factor for the ladies. Maybe some of our AFL clubs might give that factor some consideration in their training habits. Congratulations to the girl with the blonde ponytail who takes the high marks. I reckon your arms stretch almost as far as Darcy Moore’s do, and you hold on to them the same way. The goalkicking of the forwards in both sides was excellent and I suggest that training films be established so that Travis Cloke and Levi Casboult could spend a few hours each day seeing how it can be done.
The editor is making a correction to Norm`s Rambling. There was a game of football being played on Saturday. It was a better game than any other football game. It was the Melbourne Storm winning the Premiership of the National Rugby League. Well done Storm you can win the finals as well.
We had a raffle this week after my wife and I had a break in Surfers last week. I try to get her away like that every now and again because I am rather tied to the club each Saturday for up to six hours. It’s only fair that we get away to spend together time in peace and quiet. Cliffex meat trays were won this time by Frazer Rankine and Ireland, who issues that name as her preferred identity. Ireland is part of the Helen Short group of about eight friends who come to the club on most Saturday afternoons for a few laughs, drinks and friendly enjoyment. They buy raffle tickets, bottles of wine and enjoy tucking in to the available food. We welcome their company. The Crown Lager six pack was won by big-hitting Graeme Lanigin once again. It seems that a regular “Crownie” keeps him hitting over the 350 metres mark each week.
