A nice sunny day for trying to hit golf balls along damp fairways this week, following the previous two weeks rainfall of 42.2 mm. Not only was the rainfall a factor, but also Friday night was clear with not a cloud in sight, so we also had a heavy dew. That reminds me of a good joke, but it might be wise not to relate it upon this occasion. Lots of sensible people played Stableford golf once again, while it remains your right to pursue the details of those who played Foursomes as required in the itinerary of the club’s hierarchy.
A very busy late afternoon influx of players meant plenty of interest in the raffle, and it was sure a welcome result to see Cliffex meat tray winners in Ian Trebble and the wonderful Rob Driver. Rob’s win brings me once again to strange coincidences involving raffle winners. After doing the morning session, which is much the same as the afternoon, I go home for lunch and a bit of a rest. On most Saturdays my wife and I eat out on our deck, sipping a little bit of bubbly, and chatting over the morning’s events, if any. We look out over the fifth fairway, and find it interesting to see who is hitting, and how well. On Saturday I observed Rob Driver, a left-hander, do a hefty second shot. Impressed, I stood at the back fence, clapping the effort. There are plenty of players who can vouch that I do this, sometimes when they do a bad shot, but other times when they ping the ball well. Rob’s was one of those very good left-hander’s shots which didn’t have a slice on it. Anyway, that particular contact brings about a raffle success this time, and I can tell you now that it’s not the first time it’s happened. By the way, Hunter Munn won the six-pack of Crown Lager. I’m not sure whether he will be allowed to drink the beer out of a glass or through a teat. Oops! I don’t think I should go there.
Last but not least, my reception of facebook has gone to the pack. I cannot open it in any way, through the Country Club, the common or garden version, or my own private intheroughwithnorm. Anyone have a few clues to help?
