Mens Golf 3rd Round Championship 22/10/2016

No Golf Results and Norm`s Ramblings

The third round of the championship was abandoned due to inclement weather condition.

This round will be replayed in full next week instead of the Ambrose. All scores from today will not be recorded

Norms`s Ramblings

I type this, at the same time being towelled by my good wife, because the trip home from the golf course proved to be a drenching affair. Most will know that drenching means being thoroughly soaked by large amounts of water. It also means a draught of medicine administered to a horse by force. A course full of golfers trying to play their best golf in the club championships at Safety Beach yesterday received one of the biggest drenches they could ever expect (non-medicinal of course). Early morning players got away OK, and all completed their rounds despite intermittent rain. Rainfall over the last 24 hours had been very heavy, with 22 mm falling between 8.30 a.m. Friday and 8.30 a.m. Saturday. However, things started to change from about 11.15, and by the time the afternoon contestants (all competition finalists) started to hit off conditions deteriorated rapidly. When you see the greens resembling shallow water along Rosebud beach, and small lakes springing up everywhere, you know you’ve got trouble. Jimmy Rogers, for the first time in his life, had to go out and call off play, which ended in cancellation of the competition, now to be played next week. Some players were a little disappointed because by that stage they were accumulating reasonable scores, but them’s the breaks! Ken Greer, still smarting from last week’s debut with Inflationary Golf, had the satisfaction of lobbing on the full a 50 metre chip on the ninth, the gloss being taken off because he was three off the tee, and the shot was his fifth! Continuous rain over the next 24 hours left us with an even 40 mm of wet stuff from Friday morning to Sunday morning.

We still had a raffle, despite lower numbers of players. First Cliffex meat tray was won by Frazer Rankine, second went to Mike Grouw (I think), and the six-pack of Crown Lager was won by Don Thompson.
